LOCAT provides a number of web-based services (primarily GPS Tracking, Remote Control/Monitoring and Data Logging) with many unique features and benefits, and many similar to those offered by other service providers - but with an emphasis on affordability, simplicity and versatility. Many of these features will remain freely available to the general public, and the more advanced services are available on a monthly pre-paid basis to subscribers.

For the time being, we're offering these services for free on a voluntary pay-to-play basis.

It's now possible to add your smartphone as a GPS tracker. No software download or installation is required - if your phone has a modern web browser (and most do) then you're already well on your way to start tracking right now.

GPS Tracking

Live GPS tracking with constant updates and the locations are shown on interactive maps (OSM and Google) in your browser. LOCAT currently supports most of the more popular commercially available GPS trackers, but our software platform allows us to rapidly add support for devices not familiar to us. In addition to the positional tracking, our service also includes the following benefits:

  • SOS notification via network, email and/or SMS
  • Define no-entry and no-exit zones ('geo-fences')
  • Share tracking data with family, friends, colleagues and clients
  • Download historic data in a number of popular formats

Our GPS Tracking service is being offered at no cost for the time being. When the payment system is activated, the pre-paid monthly cost will be R65* for the first 3 trackers (roughly R22 per tracker), and R35 per month per additional tracker.

Remote Control

An intuitive web-based interface allows users to send pre-defined commands to controllers via SMS and GPRS internet connection. The web interface allows users to:

  • Send the unit pre-defined and custom SMS commands
  • Send the unit pre-defined and custom commands via GPRS TCP (UDP support soon)
  • Capture and log incoming TCP messages from the unit
  • Set up responses to incoming messages (e.g., send SMS/email notifications to list of contacts)
  • Download historic activity reports

Monitoring and Data Logging

The most basic of LOCAT's services allow users to monitor remote sensors (measuring speed, pressure, temperature, voltage, humidity, etc.), and provides web-based, customizable access to that data.

  • Log data from remote sensors via TCP
  • Monitor incoming data as it arrives (i.e. real-time)
  • Display data on a variety of customizable graphs and gauges
  • Set up responses when incoming values exceed pre-defined limits (for example, send SMS/email if temperature goes over 45 degrees Celsius)
  • Download historic data in a number of popular formats
